How to get beachy waves?

I have brown pin straight hair (no straightener), it is also very fine so naturally really soft and looses styles in about 10 min. I want a way that I can get a beachy wavy look. kinda like this: http://citrus-salon.com/daily-squeeze/wp-content/uploads/2010/07/wavy-brunette-beach-waves.jpg I have tried having a shower the night before and towel drying it and braiding it, i also tried braiding it in the morning and hair dryer, have tried going to sleep with wet hair hoping something will happen (nothing happens) i sont want to use heat becuase 1 it damages hair and 2 too much time. just something simple would be nice. I also can go out and buy products from like walmart. (I like herbal essences). I also am not very good at tousling my hair, it always turns into a knotted mass. (also got my friend to try adn she had no luck either, and she does it a lot to her hair) so i just want a way to make it looks like i have beachy waves with no heat. If someone can tell me the answer, and it works I will be really happy! :) PLEASE HELP! :)
