My "ex" wants me back. What should I do?

Well, this guy who i have known since 6th grade has just asked me back. I had shared my first and second kiss with him, and after both he pretended nothing had happened... So, Freshman year and i am hoping he will ask me to Homecoming and he says he wants to ask "a few girls". So after that i had not talked to him really at all. So, the second to last week of school he tells me he likes me again. It's strange, both 7th and 8th grade he told me that he had liked me again. But he broke my heart... So I tell him to prove to me that he likes me. Of course, he doesn't do anything. The only thing he did was give me one of his old shirts... And his phone number telling me to call him over the summer. I told him that he could walk me to class, give me tons of compliments, etc. But nothing. So now I'm wondering, what should I do? My mother tells me to not fall for it and he's a player. I'm not even sure if i like him or not. So, what should i do?
